Perspective Shift

The Perspective Shift of The BigDO Does your point of view really matter? From one perspective, the problem is demand, consumption, consumer choices. From the other perspective the problem is supply, and the fact that every barrel of oil extracted from source rock becomes CO 2 . Does it matter how we look at it? The outcome depends on the action. Action can be focused on the cause or on consequence -   upstream or downstream. The main greenhouse gas causing global warming is CO 2 . The ways the climates around the world are changing due to this extra thermal energy forcing is causing problems. The rate of CO 2 emission must decrease and the rate of uptake in the biosphere must increase. Logic dictates that CO 2 emissions can only decline if oil, gas and coal production all decline. Logic dictates that if oil production was decreased, the way things would be re-engineered, consumer choices would change, businesses would transition, and the future would be ...

100% Renewable Energy

Can we have 100% Renewable Society in NZ? Of course humans can organise their activities using 100% renewable energy. That project has been highly successful and demonstrated through hundreds of thousands of manifestations over 20,000-30,000 years. The question of can "we" have 100% renewable generation in New Zealand now has two answers, yes and no.   We are living in the fossil fuel age, we are fossil fuel man.  Our activities and expectations and understanding of ourselves is based on "energy-on-demand" which can be provided by fossil fuel supply and fossil fuel designed infrastructure.  The fact that we, as fossil fuel man, have these expectations does not change the fact that renewable energy is available in cycles and both regular and ra random patterns and with a good deal of uncertainty. Can we, as fossil fuel man, meet our expectations of how things are using only renewable energy?   NO Can we adap...
